Villanova's Vince Kowalski Settling In With Packers

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles are one of several NFL teams opening up a three-day mini-camp today. That list of teams also includes the Green Bay Packers and that means Vince Kowalski is hard at work at his first chance in the NFL after signing with the Pack last week as a rookie free-agent.

"It's very exciting," Kowalski tells KYW Newsradio. "It's nice to see that (the hard work) is finally paying off and I'm getting the opportunity to show what I can do at this level."

A Williamstown (NJ) High School graduate, Kowalski was a four-year starter at offensive tackle for Andy Talley's Villanova Wildcats. He says the opportunity with the Packers first came to light a few weeks ago when his agent told him that Green Bay was interested in working him out. Things went quiet for a bit, but then the pieces quickly fell into place.

"The workout was last Monday (June 8th)," Kowalski tells KYW Newsradio. "Got off a plane, got to the facility, did a quick workout, less than thirty minutes and then found out that night that they were going to sign me the following morning and now I'm here."

Kowalski, who is listed at 6-4, 305 pounds, is playing tackle right now for the Packers. He feels he eventually could also play some guard and center at the NFL level. He is also excited about the prospect of protecting Green Bay All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

"He's the best quarterback in the game," Kowalski says. "Watching him on TV, it was amazing  being in college watching him. But now that I get to see it live and in person, just the throws and reads he makes, it's just incredible. He's a great athlete. The best in the league."

Kowalski was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection as a senior at Villanova.
