At Free Library Of Philadelphia, Class Offers Tips On How To Incorporate Seasonal Produce Into Everyday Cooking

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Culinary literacy took center stage at the Free Library of Philadelphia Tuesday night.

The class gave people healthy and sustainable summertime cooking tips.

Chef William Ambrose with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America led the cooking demonstration, which he says showcased easy to do recipes.

"Seasonal fruit salad with peach, strawberry, blueberry, honey lemon dressing, you know just to bring out the bright colors of spring, summer keep it light, keep it easy. We also have a mint green tea that we're making with agave instead of processed sugars of course, all natural. And then the spinach salad, baby spinach, red onions just seasonal fruits, a couple vegetables," said Ambrose.

Heather Greaves with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America says they're also trying to teach about the benefits of buying local and organic.

"We believe that food is medicine. We're looking for different seasonal fruits and vegetables that you can find and different ways to prepare them," said Greaves.
