Matthew Baron is the president of Awesome LLC, a manufacturer of locally made products in Philadelphia. They make barbecue accessories and children's toys. Awesome LLC has an influx of orders during summer due to the nature of their product. This allows Awesome LLC to hire more people during the active months in the manufacturing of their products.
What do you anticipate happening in your field that will bring growth to your market in the next six months?
"After a long, cold winter we have been building for summer sales. Awesome LLC manufactures Brazilian BBQ supplies and foam toys for kids. The more that we sell, the more people that we can hire. There is a tremendous opportunity for myself and my friends to build my products and make money. The trick is with a company that sells only on the internet is to have enough materials to satisfy orders. If the sales get heavy, then I call the workers over to help me manufacture and build my products."
When hiring for your company, what do you look for in an employee?
"Brazilian BBQ supplies and foam toys are really passionate businesses. I am looking for passionate people. I do not hire vegetarians for my BBQ products and I do not hire workers that do not LARP - or live action role play - for my toys. It is just good sense. I need good writers as well as good manufacturers."
What is the median salary for a position in your field?
"Usually the pay for my manufacturing work is $20 per hour. Mostly I make a minimum of five hours so that the pay comes to an even $100. Sometimes there are a 10 hours per week at $20 per hour. I pay the same for writing as I do for manufacturing."
What advice would you give to someone entering into your field?
"Pick passionate people. The people whom I hire are people that I know. I hire friends and friends of friends. Ninety percent of the time, I hire friends. The other 10 percent represents the offshoring that I do. Some online jobs just pay less than minimum wage and those positions do not go to my friends."
