Police Investigate Violent Robbery In Delaware County

By Kristen Johanson and David Spunt

BROOMALL, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are investigating a Delaware County home invasion, and say they are still looking for one of the suspects.

Marple Township police say three men rang the doorbell of a home on Old Cedar Grove Road in Broomall around 1 p.m. Monday.

Chief Tom Murray says a 17-year-old boy and his mother were home at the time of the robbery.

"When he answered the door, he was pushed inside and pistol-whipped. He screamed, the mother reacted. In the meantime, they were pushing the 17-year-old at gunpoint, up the stairs, grabbed the mother and asked her where the safe was," said Chief Murray.

Chief Murray says the men ordered the woman and her son to open the safe. Authorities say they stole jewelry and cash, and then took off.

Shortly after, police stopped a car fitting the description and four males jumped out. Officers chased them, and caught three of the four suspects.

"The driver was immediately taken into custody. Officers gave chase, and captured two more. One of whom had discarded a handgun while they were running. The two that were apprehended had a large quantity of gold jewelry and cash," said Chief Murray.

Authorities say at this time, two men and a juvenile male are in custody.

The victim's family owns a bar on Baltimore Pike and investigators are convinced the men knew that and targeted the family.

"We will do our very best to figure out who that fourth individual is," Chief Thomas Murray with Marple Township Police told Eyewitness News.

Police say charges are pending at this time.
