Summer Storms Can Be Cool To Watch, But Experts Warn They Can Also Be Dangerous

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thunderstorms can be beautiful to watch, but remember they can also be deadly.
Six people in the U. S have died from lightning strikes this year and for us, the prime thunderstorm season is still to come.
There are more than 25 million strikes a year according to Rachel Bryson, spokeswoman for the American Trauma Society's Pennsylvania division. She says once you hear thunder, go inside, but be careful in there too.
"If you're taking a bath during a thunderstorm, that's a really bad idea, because that lightning can travel up thru the pipes and give you a shock, or if you're using an electronic device, you're on your computer that electricity can travel up thru the wires."
She says strikes rarely cause serious burns. Victims normally suffer heart attacks, nausea, dizziness or neurological damage.
