Officials In One Jersey Shore Town Want To 'Unleash' The Dog Beach

WILDWOOD, NJ (CBS) – One Jersey Shore town announced plans to possibly make its dog beach even better.

Officials in Wildwood introduced an amendment to an ordinance that would allow dogs to be unleashed while frolicking on the beach.

Commissioner Pete Byron says, "Our dog beach has become a hugely popular destination for dogs and their owners."

He adds, "After last year, the feedback we got was that people thought it would be wonderful if their dogs didn't have to be on a leash, so we decided to take a look at that for this year."

Byron says the designated, fenced-in location will allow pups to run free while playing in the sand.

"We hope to adopt this ordinance at our next meeting so we can have an area where mom and dad can bring Fido to the beach and let them run within the confines of the fence," Byron says.

Officials say a possible adoption of the ordinance change will take place Wednesday, June 24 in the Commissioners' Room of Wildwood City Hall.
