Firefly 2015: Britt Daniel Of Spoon

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This time next week, Dover, Delaware will be a sea of crop tops and sunglasses as the masses converge on the Woodlands for Firefly Music Festival. Echoing through the trees will be a melting pot of music, with everyone from Paul McCartney to Run The Jewels slated to play.

June 18th through the 21st the Firefly Music Festival returns to the Woodlands for its fourth year, and on Saturday Britt Daniel and Spoon will take the stage.

Spoon is no stranger to festivals. Last year they celebrated their 20th year by releasing the acclaimed "They Want My Soul," followed by an epic performance on the Parkway for the Made In America festival. As they tour the country they'll take time out to play the farm for Bonaroo this weekend, and the woods of Firefly next weekend.

Just don't ask Britt Daniel to sleep over.

"I'm a city guy you know, I'm not a camper. But I know a lot of people who enjoy that experience" says Daniel. "And I guess there's some appeal to it. You can do mushrooms and not have to drive home."

When asked how a festival out in the Woodlands compares to a city festival like Made In America, Daniel says "I think the vibe is pretty similar".

Daniel and Spoon have thrived in the city setting. Last year they thrilled a packed Ben Franklin Parkway crowd in Philadelphia as the rain poured down.

"It was a pretty wild show. We've never played a show in that much rain. Unlike most festival stages there was no covering over us, so we were getting just as soaked just as everybody in the audience. What was funny is that the wetter everybody got, the wilder everybody got. It didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits. It just actually was quite the opposite. I don't know if they were just pleased that we were sticking with it or what, but people went nuts."

Spoon will likely play their new single "TV Set" during their performance next weekend. The Cramps song has been covered by Spoon for the Poltergeist soundtrack.

"The director of that movie lives across the street from me" says Daniel. "I think this is his first studio picture. I'm not sure how much control he got, but he did at least get to pick some songs and he invited us to do that Cramps song. He specifically wanted TV Set."
