Chris Mannix On Sixers' Pick: 'It's Going To Be A Tough Call'

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix joined Josh Innes and Tony Bruno on Thursday. The Sixers are just a few weeks away from the next crucial addition to the rebuild and Mannix discussed the Sixers draft situation.

Mannix addressed the major debate for Sixers fans at the moment: will the team opt for D'Angelo Russell or Emmanuel Mudiay?

Mannix believes the Sixers will certainly get their choice between the two.

"I think it's Towns, Okafor...Okafor, Towns, however you want to look at it, and then the Sixers will have their pick of whatever playmaker they want to take off the board."

What it will ultimately come down to is which playmaker will move the program forward.

"Russell to me has a slight edge," Mannix said. He did not rule out Mudiay impressing the Sixers into picking him when he referenced a reported, upcoming workout that Mudiay has with the team.

"If he performs extremely well in that workout, he could turn some heads."

It is clear that Russell has the edge over Mudiay when it comes to shooting the basketball and that is something the Sixers obviously lack. However, Mudiay certainly brings a lot to the table with his physical talent.

Mannix compared the two.

"Mudiay is a much more athletic player than Russell is, probably has a higher offensive scoring ceiling than Russell does, but he's not the playmaker that Russell is."

Mannix expressed that this will not be an easy decision for Sam Hinkie and the Sixers to make, but it is not a bad decision to be in.

"I think it's going to be a tough call," Mannix said. "I do think it's going to be a point guard that they take and fortunately for them, they're going to have their pick of which one they want to get."
