Thousands Of Fish Die After Fire At Pa. Chemical Plant
HANOVER, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say thousands of fish have been killed in a south-central Pennsylvania creek following possible contamination from a massive chemical plant fire creek.
Officials in Adams and York counties are advising people not to fish, boat or swim in certain sections of the Conewago Creek until further notice.
State environmental officials say contaminants were found in the water following Monday's fire at Miller Chemical and Fertilizer Plant in Conewago, Adams County.
Spokesman Eric Levis of the state Fish and Boat Commission told the York Dispatch that dead fish have been seen over a 10- to 15-mile span. He said a conservation officer is trying to determine how many fish have been killed and what species are involved.
Miller Chemical says it manufactures nonhazardous crop protection and nutritional agrochemicals.
