Avalon Police: Car Service Driver Charged With Lewdness, Fondled Himself While Woman Was Stuck In Car

AVALON, N.J. (CBS) --- The Avalon Police Department has charged an Uber Driver from Philadelphia with Lewdness, False Imprisonment, and Harassment after receiving a complaint from a seasonal resident of the Jersey Shore town.

Avalon Police say the female complainant hired Nayal Salem through the Uber.com smartphone application.

After taking a ride in Salem's vehicle and reaching her destination, the woman was not able to open the rear door of the car.

Police say Salem, 57, allegedly entered the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle where the woman was sitting and began to fondle himself through his clothing.

Salem was served a summons to appear at the Avalon Municipal Court. His court date is June 22nd.

Uber had previously released a statement about this incident, saying: 'The driver has been permanently removed from the Uber platform for his inappropriate behavior, and we have reached out to the rider to apologize for such an uncomfortable experience.'
