Gloucester Township Police Catch Burglary Suspect After Seeing Cigarette Smoke Emanating From Crawl Space

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) — Police in Gloucester Township say a burglary suspect was caught after cigarette smoke led them to a crawl space where he was hiding.

Police were conducting a patrol in the Blackwood Clementon Road Business District when they saw a vehicle parked next to an abandoned business at 1571 Blackwood Clementon Road. An open door was also discovered behind the main building.

Once officers established a perimeter and closed the business, they heard a loud noise inside.

Significant damage was found in the business that appeared to have been caused by the attempted removal of copper pipes.

At that point, officers also noticed a door leading to a small crawl space in the reader of the store, as well as cigarette smoke emanating from the area.

Police found the suspect, Victor A. Fuson, who had been hiding about 20 feet into the crawl space. Upon exiting the crawl space, a brief struggle ensued between the suspect and officers.

Fuson was arrested and taken to Camden County Correctional Facility in default of $25,000 cash bail.

He is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest 3rd Degree, Theft 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Burglary Tools Disorderly Persons Offense.
