While Showboat Satellite Campus Bid Remains Stalled, Stockton University Sends Reassuring Letter To Prospective Freshmen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- With its bid to open a satellite campus in Atlantic City in the former Showboat Casino location stalled by legal issues, Stockton University sent a letter to prospective freshmen aimed at dispelling what it calls rumors about housing and tuition.
Stockton University Dean of Enrollment John Iacovelli says it's his job to stay in touch with students who've been accepted but haven't committed.
"We send a lot of letters out to our prospective students," he says.
Iacovelli says the one in question was sent out to about 2,200 students. Its aim, he says, is to address two rumors. One, that because of the stymied Showboat deal, Stockton tuition would spike.
"We're not going to have anything like that," he says. "And the other is that because of all the success we've had at the college, there was no room in our residence halls. So I wanted to address both of those, because we guarantee housing for freshman."
As for whether concerns surrounding the Showboat issue had dampened enrollment: "Right now, as I'm sitting here talking to you, I'm somewhere between 50 to 55 deposits away from what was the peak in the history of the school."
