Officials: Lightning Strike Ignites Roof On Delaware House

NEWARK, Del., (CBS) – Fire officials say the roof of a house was ignited by a lightning strike in Newark, Delaware.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, the Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says crews responded to the unit block of Marlin Drive for a house on fire.

Officials say firefighters found smoke pouring from the home.

Deputy fire marshals were called to the scene for the investigation. According to the state fire marshal's office, the home was struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm that rolled through the area. Fire officials say the roof was ignited by the lightning strike.

No injuries were reported, according to fire officials.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says they have determined that the house fire was accidental.

Fire officials say the American Red Cross is assisting four residents.
