Hear Philly: The Shore Thing - Ms. New Jersey, Antique Cars and July Jubilee In June

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) - The summer fun begins right off the bat in Ocean City with a very special birthday celebration.
Michele Gillian, who's the executive director of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, says Wonder's Birthday Bash basically opens the boardwalk for them in June:
"It's a celebration of Wonder Bear's birthday. It's two-ticket rides at 6th and the Boardwalk (Wonderland), but also there's a celebration at about 9 o'clock for fireworks, so we invite everyone to come down and view the fireworks, they can ride the rides for two tickets and celebrate another great event in Ocean City."
Wonder's Birthday Bash is from 6-10 p.m. on June 4th.
Ocean City is also the home of Ms. New Jersey and spends four days mid June celebrating just that:
"There's preliminary competition that's held at the Music Pier," explains Gillian. "We also have a 'Show Me Your Shows Parade' which is that Wednesday prior to the crowning of Ms. Ocean City that Saturday, so there's lots of activities for Ms. New Jersey, their fans and their families to come and enjoy Ocean City."
Gillian says participants come from all over the state:
"It's all the counties and all the city municipalities -- young ladies come down and compete and it's not just a beauty contest, they also have talent and lots of activities that they do to become Ms. New Jersey."
The contestants are welcomed on June 10th and the new Ms. New Jersey is crowned on June 13th.
That following Saturday, the Antique Auto Show shifts into high gear:
"We have over 300 vintage vehicles that are lined up at the Tabernacle, which is at 6th Street and Asbury Avenue," says Gillian. "They start at 9 a.m., you can come down and see all the unique cars. Then they have a parade, that starts at 2 p.m. and goes in our downtown and up on the boardwalk, so it's a great way to see some unique cars."
The Show rides into down June 20th, just in time for Father's Day weekend.
And it may only be June, but Gillian says the popular children's event July Jubilee returns on the 22nd:
"Each day we have a different event go on. It's 11 a.m. at the Music Pier. The first day we have taffy sculpting. Then we have treasure hunts. They go to some of the playgrounds throughout the city and actually have treasure hunts for children. And there's more activities for children to do throughout the city and it's lots of fun."
July Jubilee runs until June 26th.
