Maxwell: We Will Go To Super Bowl 50, 'You Can Take That As A Guarantee'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Byron Maxwell spent the last four seasons playing cornerback for Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks. Last year, Maxwell came within one yard of winning his second straight Super Bowl.

As the top free-agent corner this offseason, Maxwell signed a six year, $63 million deal to play for Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a exclusive interview with Jenny Vrentas of MMQB, the 27-year-old veteran explained why the similarity of Kelly's culture in Philly to Caroll's in Seattle, has Maxwell believing an Eagles Super Bowl run is imminent.

"I've been there before," Maxwell said. "Knowing what it's like if we go that far. Because we're gonna go that far this year—meaning the playoffs and the Super Bowl. We're gonna go that far."

"Is that similarity in the team culture a big reason why you believe the Eagles will go to the Super Bowl this year?" Vrentas asked.

"We will, though," said Maxwell.

"That sounds kind of like a guarantee," Vrentas replied.

"You can take that as a guarantee."

So, what exactly is similar about the respective cultures?

"They teach you mental toughness, and being strong, and checking in with yourself and competing with yourself and bringing the best out of yourself every day," Maxwell said in the interview. "That's really what both of them try to get through to you. They might use different words, but that's basically what they're trying to get through."

Maxwell says championship chemistry has to be developed, something he is confident will happen in Philly.

"Everybody wants to learn, everybody wants to work, everybody wants to get to [Super Bowl] No. 50," Maxwell said. "To get to No. 50, the chemistry has to be good.

"Malcolm Jenkins has been to one. Chris Maragos. Walter Thurmond. We've got guys in the secondary who have been to the Super Bowl and know what it's like to go that far. So I don't think I'm talking a foreign language when I talk like that."
