Asche Starts In Left, As Phils Open Series With Rockies Tonight

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a 3-7 road trip, the Phillies are back home tonight to open a nine-game homestand with the first of three games against the Colorado Rockies at Citizens Bank Park.

Cody Asche is back with the Phillies after spending 15 games down in Triple-A Lehigh Valley getting acclimated to playing left field. Asche hit .295 in those 15 games with one error. To make room for Asche on the roster, outfielder Grady Sizemore has been designated for assignment.

Cole Hamels will get the start tonight for the Phillies. He is 5-3 this season with a 2.98 ERA. In his last 4 starts, Hamels has gone 4-0 with an ERA of 1.53. One of those wins came against the Rockies in Denver as he allowed just a run in 7 1/3 innings of work on May 18th, winning the game 4-3.

In 9 career starts against the Rockies, Hamels is 4-3 with a 3.34 ERA.

His mound opponent tonight will be RHP Chad Bettis. He is 1-0 in 3 starts this season with a 4.19 ERA. One of those starts came against the Phillies on May 19th in Denver, he allowed 3 runs in 6 innings getting a no-decision in a game the Rockies eventually won 6-5.
