Study: Get A Degree Before Getting Hitched To Keep The Weight Off

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A college degree can help married couples keep the pounds off.

People who earn a four-year college degree before they marry are apparently less likely to become obese when compared to those who graduate after getting married.

The scientists used data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health and found that those who got a degree after getting hitched were 50% more likely to be obese.

Researchers in Michigan say that people who earn a degree before marrying may have problem-solving skills and can find ways to exercise and eat healthy while they adjust to married life.

The study is published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior.
