Six Refurbished PATCO Cars Now In Service

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- Newly refurbished PATCO cars were unveiled at the Woodcrest Station Thursday.
Clean and comfortable inside, bright silver outside, the six new cars are a lot prettier than the other dingy ones in service.
DRPA CEO John Hanson said eventually all of the cars will be updated as part of a nearly $200-million project.
"We should be getting two a month." said John Hanson. "As we get them, they'll be put into married pairs and assembled into six and four car trains and they'll go out on the line."
Hanson thanked a long list of politicians on both sides of the river for getting federal funding to make this possible.
Earl Robinson, a 40 year PATCO veteran engineer, said the new cars are better for the public and the operators.
"Better ride for the riding public and the advances in technology will be better for the operators also."
The new cars will only be used during off-peak hours at first for safety monitoring.
