KYW Flashback: Celebrating The 200th Anniversary Of The United States Constitution In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- KYW's home on Independence Mall was the perfect spot to witness one of the most significant celebrations in the history of the United States.
It was the 200th anniversary of the historic gathering to draft a constitution that would define the morals and goals of a new country. It would blend the separate states into a single union.
KYW's lead reporter on the coverage was Richard Maloney, our consultant was his father, a professor of American history.
Highlights included constitutional debates at Independence Hall, James Earl Jones intoned the words, "We the People" and Chief Justice Warren Burger quoted Ben Franklin, "We have created a republic. If we can keep it, let's keep it."
