South Jersey Teen Doing Her Part To Show Appreciation To Veterans

By Mike Dougherty

WILLIAMSTOWN, N.J. (CBS) - A South Jersey teenager is showing those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and their families she cares.

There are thousands of flowers decorating the gravestones at the Gloucester County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery thanks to 14-year-old Marina Clifford.

She started "Operation Our Time To Serve" and through the organization, she helps provide free flowers to add color to the cemetery where fallen heroes are laid to rest.

"This is the way that I wanted to say thank you to them," Marina tells KYW Newsradio.

She also sends care packages to troops overseas and does food drives to show her support for the defenders of our freedom:

"The reason why we're out here on this beautiful day is because of them. The least we could do is thank them."

She got the idea after speaking with a woman she found crying at a gravestone in Arlington National Cemetery.

"The military is close to my heart. A lot of my family is involved in it."

The Delaware Valley Floral Group is also pitching in by matching every dollar Marina raises.
