Democratic Mayoral Nominee Kenney Embracing Some Nutter Initiatives

By Mike Dunn

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - While he was on City Council, Jim Kenney had a field day taking shots at the Nutter Administration. But now that he's the Democratic nominee for mayor, he fully admits there are a handful of Nutter initiatives that he plans to continue.

Kenney says if elected he will not touch two key legacies of Michael Nutter's two terms in office: ethics and sustainability.

On ethics, Kenney says he wants some Nutter aides to stay on:

"I've already asked the Inspector General (Amy Kurland) if she'd like to stay. She's certainly welcome to stay, and with her team. The 40-50 million dollars in waste, fraud and corruption that she recovered and returned back to the city coffers I think is admirable. And I want to continue that goal."

Kenney admits to coming around about some of Nutter's environmental initiatives:

"When the bike share thing was first raised, people denigrated it and thought it was not important. But I tell you what, every time I see those bike racks all over the city, it really has moved the city into modern times. And they're always empty. Somebody's using those bikes."

Of course Kenney admits he plans to do other things differently if elected, but he's mum for the moment about those plans.
