Tumblr Focuses on Social Issues With New Sharing Campaign

By social media editor Melony Roy

NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS) -- The catchall blogging platform "Tumblr" has launched a new campaign to promote positivity and support in online communities.

The initiative, dubbed "Post It Forward," aims to weave together a wide range of social issues -- such as bullying, self-harm, depression, and sexual assault -- and shine a light on the ways online connection and community can provide support.

Tumblr is encouraging its users to share a message about how they got through a tough time in their lives.  The advice and stories will live both within the hashtag #PostItFoward and on the Tumblr site PostItForward.tumblr.com.

Notable celebrities such as vice president Joe Biden, actress/director Elizabeth Banks, and talk show host Wendy Williams helped kick off the campaign.  Their messages highlight the causes they believe in, such as antibullying or ending sexual assault.

You can join by posting a video, a short text post, or even creating a GIF selfie with a new Tumblr tool, then hashtagging your message with #PostItFoward.

The "Post It Forward" campaign will run throughout the summer.
