PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Kids who receive the Phillies' Cody Asche wiffle ball set as a giveaway this Sunday may be left to wonder...where's Cody Asche?
Yes, the Phillies are still giving kids Cody Asche wiffle ball sets at Sunday's game, even though Asche himself was optioned to triple-A Monday night to learn to play left field.
Phillies VP for Marketing Dave Buck says once in a while the roster moves don't align with giveaways that are planned months in advance.
"It's reality. So we're doing this for the team to be better. And the fact that we're giving out a Cody Asche wiffle ball bat on Sunday shouldn't really matter to that right now. It's not going to become a collector's item or anything like that. He's going to be back, I'm not sure when. But he's going to be back and he's a big part of the future."
It's not the first time marketing was disrupted by a baseball decision. In 2012 the Phils gave away a Hunter Pence bobblehead, right after he was traded to the Giants.
