New Manayunk Street Art Points The Way To Venice Island

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There is new street art in Manayunk designed to direct visitors to the pumping station and performing arts center on Venice Island.

The water-themed vinyl decals on sidewalks and walls lead Main Street visitors to the new construction along the Manayunk Canal.

"They're just designed to make you aware that there's something going on down here," says Jane Lipton, executive director of the Manayunk Development Corporation.

Lipton says what's going on is the new confluence of stormwater management, recreation space and performing arts center that is Venice Island:

"We have never had anything to bring people down here before, except to park a car. And even then, people went, 'Venice Island? Where's Venice Island? What is Venice Island'?"

The blue-green street art along Main, Lock and Cotton Streets points the way.
