3 Game-Winning Plays On Wednesday Night

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Wednesday night had everything we could hope for, in a May night of sports.

With three of the four major sports in action, including two in the heart of their respective postseasons, we saw a trio of exhilarating game-winning plays, one of which in elimination fashion.

With one-out in the 9th, a runner on third, and the Phils holding a 3-2 lead over the Pirates, Jeff Francoeur caught a fly ball down the right-field line. Frencoeur threw a laser to nail the tying run at the plate, preserve the win for the Phils, and give his closer Jonathan Papelbon the franchise record in saves.

After Paul Pierce hit a go-ahead baseline three pointer with eight seconds remaining in a crucial game-five between the Wizards and Hawks, Al Horford responded. The Hawks' center ferociously grabbed an offensive rebound and put back the game winner for his team, just before the buzzer.
