Delaware County Stumbles as New Business Development Web Site is Unveiled

By David Madden

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (CBS) -- Delaware County, Pa. today tried to take the wraps off a new web site aimed at helping business, but things did not go as planned.

Officials held a press conference to unveil the "Delco Edge," a web site aimed at promoting economic development.

"We want this program to be able to market us regionally, nationally, and globally to expand business which, hopefully, will allow many of our existing businesses to grow even further," said county councilman John McBlain.

He said they're trying to attract not just established businesses, but entrepreneurs looking to try out something new.

But today's rollout ran into a problem when the planned web site, delcoedge.com, directed people to another site.  That led county officials to direct the traffic to their longstanding web address, delcopa.org.

The plan for the "Delco Edge" is part of the county's ten-year blueprint to spearhead economic development.

The county contracted with Delta Development Group, a central Pennsylvania-based consultant, to develop and produce the new web site.  It was not immediately clear who was responsible for today's domain name difficulty.
