PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Avengers: Age of Ultron followed up its monster box office opening weekend with another strong showing on the summer movie season's second weekend.
The superhero fantasy sequel earned an estimated $77-million on its second weekend, pushing its cumulative total over the $300-million mark.
A distant second place was claimed by the debuting action comedy, Hot Pursuit, starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara. It took in an opening-weekend total of $13-million.
Rounding out the top five with modest returns of about $5-million each were holdovers The Age of Adaline, Furious 7, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.
As for the industry-wide totals, they were slightly below those on the counterpart weekend a year ago.
