Hugh Douglas: 'Not The First Time I've Heard That About Chip'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- LeSean McCoy has created a monster.

Last week's release of McCoy's comments about his former coach, saying Chip Kelly got rid of the "good, black players the fastest," has prompted powerful reaction.

Former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas, who admitted he's not sure if there's merit to McCoy's statement, says that wasn't the first time has heard that sentiment echoed about Kelly.

"I don't know Chip that well, but that's not the first time that I've heard that about Chip," Douglas told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday. "I don't know. I think the guys in the locker room, they have a better feel for Chip than most people and I don't know. He doesn't project that to me, but like I said, I wasn't there with him everyday.

"Everything they said about DeSean Jackson is hearsay, for the most part," Douglas continued. "It was probably true, but nobody had it on film, nobody saw it. What we saw with Riley Cooper, you actually saw that."

What about Kelly the football coach?

"That remains to be seen, Angelo," Douglas said, when asked if he believes Kelly is a good coach. "I'm probably like everybody else in Philadelphia. You know, you scratch your head at some of the things that he's done, but at the same time it's the offseason in the NFL. Everybody is making moves, everybody is changing their roster, everybody is trying to get better. So we won't know if Chip Kelly is a genius or an idiot until the season starts."
