Police: Teen Escapes Custody In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a teen wanted in connection with three armed robberies escaped from custody in Philadelphia.

At about 6:42 p.m. Wednesday, Philadelphia Police say 16-year-old Hasheem Singletary escaped from private contractors that were hired to transport him from Florida to Philadelphia.

Authorities say Singletary is currently wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for three gunpoint robberies.

"People know where he's at, obviously he's back in his hometown. There are individuals who he hangs out with of like age and family members," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker.

According to police, Singletary was last seen in the area of 56th Street and Osage Avenue.

Police say he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black knee length shorts with a stripe on the side, white socks, and blue slip on sneakers with white soles.

"Anybody who knows where this kid is and anyone who thinks they are going to hide this kid, if we find out you are harboring this fugitive, you will be arrested also and charged," said Lt. Walker.

Police ask anyone with information on Singletary's whereabouts to contact Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183/3184 or call 911.
