Philadelphia Science Festival Wrapped Up With Carnival On The Parkway

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It was more than a week of fun and learning! The 2015 Philadelphia Science Festival wrapped up Saturday with a free interactive science carnival along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

It was a blast, literally, at one demonstration where liquid nitrogen was used, demonstrating the expansion of gas. The reaction was an explosion of colorful balls which rained down on the crowd.

A talking robot and a walk through a giant brain had the folks thinking about science.

Larry Dubinski, president and chief executive of the Franklin Institute, said the 5th annual Philadelphia Science Festival was bigger and better than ever.

Sheila Love of West Philadelphia was there with her two nieces.

"They give the children an opportunity to come out and experience different science techniques and maybe broaden their horizons as far as science is concerned." said Love.  "It's fun, it's awesome, it's a beautiful day, it's free and you can't ask for anything more."

It featured more than 100 events at various venues for 9 days with thousands of participants.

"That ability to participate in hands on experimentation, that's what drives people's curiosity." said Dubinksi. "That's what drives their learning and that's what takes them to the next level."

The center of gravity was put to the test at a Skateboarding demonstration at the carnival.
