Philadelphia Police Investigating After 2 Rental Trucks Reported Stolen This Past Week

By Mike Dougherty and Todd Quinones

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down two moving vans that they say were stolen this week.

While there are no credible homeland security threats relating to the vans, authorities want find them as soon as possible.

With the Broad Street Run this Sunday, police want to make sure all the bases are covered.

Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan says one is a U-Haul truck with Arizona license plates AG-30928 and the other is a Penske with Indiana tags 224-5222.

"We ask people to keep in mind if they should see a rented vehicle sitting on their block unattended, it may well be the vehicle we're looking for."

Sullivan says the Penske truck was taken from a lot near 12th and Washington.

Police say suspects conned a homeless man into opening a bank account and they gave him enough money to put into the account so he could get a debit card in order to rent the U-Haul.

"Directed him to go home, said would return with van later and pay him, but they never did."

Police are worried about a possible connection to terrorism, but they believe a more common criminal motivation is likely.

"Likely to try and avoid paying rental fees."

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
