Undefeated Soul Prepare For Portland

By Matt Leon

The Philadelphia Soul will be back home on Saturday night as they look to continue their season opening roll.

The Soul improved to 5-0 last weekend as they took care of a struggling New Orleans VooDoo squad, 55-42.

"We came out and started strong, which was nice to see," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. "Jumped up on them 34-7. They got an onside kick and end up getting the last score right before half, which we'd been doing a really good job of with controlling the clock. Made it a little bit of a game in the second half, some our fault but some of them just making some plays."

Philadelphia is one of just two undefeated teams left in the Arena Football League (San Jose is the other) but Dolezel says they still haven't peaked.

"We haven't played our best ball yet," Dolezel says. "We're steadily improving."

Portland will bring a 2-3 record into the Center on Saturday night. Last time out they lost to San Jose, 64-45.

"Well coached," Dolezel says of the Thunder. "Coach (Mike) Hohensee (who used to coach the Soul) has been around the league for forever, since it started actually. He played in it and now he's coaching in it. He's a hall of famer for a reason. He'll have those guys playing well. Some familiar faces on the other side as well, we know these guys for the most part. We've got to get after the quarterback. If we don't get after the quarterback, then they'll stay in the game."

Philadelphia and Portland will kickoff at 6:00pm on Saturday night.
