Defense Attorney Outraged at Trial Postponement For 10 Charged in Philadelphia Police Protest

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Commonwealth Court judge today agreed to give prosecutors more time to prepare their case against ten people charged with disorderly conduct at a town hall meeting last month in the Lawncrest section of the city.

The self-proclaim "Philly 10" had showed up at the town hall meeting to protest the DA's decision not to prosecute two cops who shot and killed Brandon Tate-Brown in December.

Assistant DA Pam Conner today told Judge Joyce Eubanks that she didn't get the case until just recently and was hopelessly unprepared.

That argument did not sit well with defense attorney Larry Krasner.

"I'm very skeptical of the motivation of the district attorney's office for trying to continue (postpone) this case today and for trying to do it at the very last minute," Krasner said, "when the primary witness is standing right there next to the prosecutor and they've known about the case ever since the arrests were made in the presence of both the police commmissioner and the DA, Seth Williams, himself."

Rufus Farmer was one of those who did not get their day in court.

"Disappointed?  Yeah, I wanted to get it over with," he said after today's postponement.  "But that's OK, we'll get our day in court."
