3 Positives About The Phillies After First Three Series'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Phillies are a mess, we know this.

Through the first three series' of the season, the Phils are 3-6 (already tied for last in the NL East), and currently amid a four-game losing steak.

Ryan Howard is hitting .148 with 10 strikeouts, Chase Utley is hitting .167 with seven strikeouts, Jonathan Papelbon is calling team meetings even though he 'doesn't feel like a Phillie,' Ryne Sandberg is 0-for-the-season when it comes to making correct decisions, and Ruben Amaro Jr. joins Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show every Tuesday to talk about all of it.

We know this. But why dwell on it? Let's look at some positives!

3. Odubel Herrera, 23, CF

Herrera became just the second Phillies player in 45 years to make his major-league debut on Opening Day. Think about that. And the 23-year-old center-fielder is making the most of his opportunity early on, hitting .250 (7-28) with three-doubles (tied for team lead) and one triple (leads team).

Small sample size, certainly, but Herrera is a young player to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

2. Ben Revere's LF Arm

It's alive!

While Revere has been struggling offensively, just 5-36 at the dish with an uncanny six strikeouts already, he has been spectacular in the field. Switching from center to left, Revere is making diving plays, tracking balls better, and suddenly making strong throws!

Now, if Domonic Brown can come back and actually---ah, never mind. Sorry got carried away there.

1. Cody smAsche

Washington Nationals v Philadelphia Phillies

Asche, 24, is a guy we look at to become a center piece of the re-birth of this team. We need you, Cody!

Through eight games played, Asche is 12-24 with a double, a home run, two RBI's, and four walks. He has hit safely in seven of eight games and he already has a couple of three-hit performances.
