May 2nd: 'Sports Armageddon'

By Joseph Santoliquito

LAS VEGAS, NV (CBS) — Back before TV, the internet, social media, and anything else with connecting wires, back when it seemed the sports world spun in black-and-white, there was boxing, horse racing and baseball.

Those were the sports that dominated the early portion of the last century. On Saturday, May 2nd, those sports will shine again in an improbable concurrence that only a sports junkie can love.

On Saturday morning, the NFL Draft, this year out of Chicago, Ill., will resume with the fourth-through-seventh rounds being selected, starting at 12-noon ET.

On April 18, the NBA playoffs begin and if any first-round series reaches a Game 7, there is a strong possibility that game will be shown on Saturday, May 2.

The Rangers and Capitals will play game 2 of the second round, of the NHL playoffs at 12:30pm E.T.

As for the baseball fan, they'll have their choice. Locally, the Phillies will play at the Miami Marlins at 4:30ET, while nationally the Boston Red Sox will be hosting the New York Yankees and at 1:30 ET.

The day then will roll into the Kentucky Derby, which has a scheduled post 6:24 ET post time. The Kentucky Derby has a horse running in it called "It's A Knockout," which spills into the perfect segue for the event of the day—the most anticipated fight in over 20 years and one of the richest sports events in sports history. That's the welterweight showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at 9 ET.

Brace yourselves, for Saturday, May 2nd, better known as "Sports Armageddon."
