94WIP's Josh Innes Serves As 'Human Dart Board,' After Trashing Utley
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Josh Innes picked the wrong day to trash Chase Utley.
A midst a 2-22 slump to start the season, Innes questioned Philly's unwillingness to criticize Utley while burring the struggling Ryan Howard. "The Man" responded in a way only Utley could, going 3-3 on Tuesday night with not one---but two home runs---and three RBI's.
"You get to use me as a human dart board today and take every shot at me you want to, because I was big bad radio guy trashing Chase Utley yesterday [on Tuesday]," Innes said Wednesday on the 94WIP Innes And Bruno Show. "In this situation, I can acknowledge when I look like a one-hundred percent fool."
Innes' ripping of the Phillies six-time All-Star second baseman was thorough on Tuesday, and was replayed in the opening of Wednesday's show.
"So again, we're really, really reaching to try to defend a baseball player that isn't that good anymore.
"Have some balls fans and boo Chase Utley but you won't because you're [expletive]-less in this situation!" Innes exclaimed on Tuesday. "You're gonna sit here and you're gonna crap on everybody, but Chase Utley. No one's got the balls to say anything about it and no one's got the balls to challenge him or hold him accountable. And that's my problem. You can't be selectively accountable. Be accountable for everything."

Innes found a rational way to take credit for Utley's breakout game.
"I gotta give you major props for coming clean today and taking the punishment, the abuse," said Tony Bruno, Innes' co-host
"It was like the perfect storm of let's make Josh look like a bigger A-hole than he already makes himself look like," Innes said. "You know what? I think the Phillies and the Phillies fans should thank me today. I don't know who got the message to him, I don't know how he got the message, but somehow Chase Utley knew all the crap I was talking and he just threw out a giant F-you to me last night.
"I got him motivated, somebody probably told him," Innes joked. "[Ryan] Howard you suck too! Let's go! Let's get hitting Howard! From now on, I'm going to tell you opposite of what's actually going to happen. The Eagles will go 0-16 mark it down! They will not draft Marcus Mariota!"
And then, the callers chimed in.
"Josh, I just want to ask a favor of you," one caller said. "Could you just talk trash on Jerome Williams and the Phillies' entire lineup on today's show. I got some money on the Phillies money-line."
"Hey Josh, keep talkin' smack about Ryan Howard," said another caller. "Maybe tonight he'll hit three home runs!"
"I didn't quite understand what you were talking about what an ass-clown was,"a third caller said. "Watching the game, it became perfectly clear I do know what an ass-clown is.
"What is it?" Bruno asked.
"A guy that comes on that trashes Chase Utley and then the guy plays lights out!"
