UPDATE: Funds Raised For Dog With Potential Brain Tumor To Get Medical Testing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's been a rough life so far for a young pit bull mix.

Covered in wounds and suffering from heartworm, the pup was brought to South Jersey animal rescue Lilo's Promise, where he was named "Balboa" and placed in a foster home.

Unfortunately, his troubles didn't end there.

After people noticed Balboa's right eye was frequently dilated, he was taken to a vet, who suspects he may have a brain tumor.

In order to confirm that though, Balboa will need tests, including an MRI. Those tests cost about $3,000 – money Lilo's Promise is now turning to the public to help raise.

The shelter has started a Crowdrise page for the adoptable pup. As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, just $245 had been donated.

"We are committed to doing everything we need to do to help [Balboa]," Lilo's Promise writes. "But we need you! We are a small non-profit and do not have the funds [the test] requires."

UPDATE: On Wednesday, Lilo's Promise posted an update stating that the necessary funds had been raised.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to Balboa! We are overwhelmed by your generosity! This means he can have his MRI and tests done very soon and we will keep you all updated of course!" the organization writes.

Lilo's Promise says any additional funds will be used for his follow-up care and kenneling.
