More than 1.2M Apples Watches Sold On The First Day Of Pre-Orders, But How Many Of Them Will Get Strapped To A Wrist?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Estimates show Apple sold more than one-point-two million Watches on the first day of pre-orders last week. But not all of them will end up strapped to a wrist.
More than 950,000 people in the US ordered an Apple Watch -- and Slice Intelligence estimates one in three of them bought more than one Watch.
Why? Maybe for gifts or for another family member. But there's another theory, courtesy Joe from Society Hill. "I could not choose between which one," he admits, "so they recommended I purchase a couple different ones."
The idea being he'd stop by an Apple store, like this one on Walnut Street in Center City, before the Watches he purchased online showed up at his door. "Come in, try them on, and see which one I like, then just cancel the order," he said. "It seemed like a good idea."
Preorders start shipping later this month, but if you order Watch now, you'll likely have to wait until June to get it.
Among those who got in early, Slice says the majority bought the less-expensive Sport model -- spending an average of $380 -- with the black synthetic rubber band the most popular.
One analyst expects Apple to sell 10 million Watches this year.
