Eagles Sign Restricted Free Agent Cedric Thornton To One-Year Deal

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles will keep a young piece of their defensive line in the fold as the team announced on Monday that they signed Cedric Thornton to a one-year deal. Thornton was a restricted free agent.

Thornton has been with the Eagles since 2012 and was an undrafted free agent out of Southern Arkansas. He has appeared in all 16 games each of his three seasons with the Eagles and has grown into a solid starting defensive end in Billy Davis' 3-4 scheme.

Thornton had 36 solo tackles and 16 assisted tackles in 2014 to go along with one sack. He also recovered three fumbles on the season.

With Thornton sticking around for at least another season, the Eagles will keep their young emerging line together. Thornton, 26, will more than likely continue to play alongside Bennie Logan, 25, and Fletcher Cox, 24.

The stellar play on the line was a major reason why the Eagles front seven took a step forward in 2014. With Thornton still in the fold, the Eagles should have the continuity to continue to grow that unit.
