Report: There's One Local City Where Women Out-earn Men

TRENTON, NJ (CBS) – The statistics are probably familiar to you at this point – a woman will make an average of 79 percent (or 77 percent, depending on which source you consult) of what a man makes for doing a similar job.

Now, a new report reveals the few places were women actually make MORE than men, and one of them is in our area.

While Inglewood, CA was the top city where women out-earn men (120.6 percent), Trenton came in second place at 118.2 percent, just ahead of Orlando, FL.

To compile its list, NerdWallet.com says it used data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey in 2005 and 2013.

And though NerdWallet notes that the gender wage gap is "complex," the site says the current stats translate into an average of $10,000 less income per year for women, which is bad news since women are the breadwinners in about 40 percent of American families and make up half of the workforce.

The only other remotely nearby cities on the list are Albany, NY (4) and Silver Spring, MD (20).
