Phils Turn To Harang In Game No. 2 Against Boston

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Things couldn't have gone much worse for the Phillies on Opening Day.

They lost at home to Boston Monday, 8-0, as ace left-hander Cole Hamels allowed four solo home runs in five innings of work. Lefty Jake Diekman, a key bullpen piece, allowed a grand slam home run and the lineup managed just three hits.

The Phils will look for better results tonight as they play the second game of this three-game, season-opening series with Boston.

Veteran right-hander Aaron Harang will get the start on the mound for the Phillies. He was signed as a free agent in the offseason after going 12-12 in 2014 for the Atlanta Braves. He made four spring training starts for the Phils, compiling a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings of work.

In his career against Boston, Harang has gone 2-2 in 5 starts with a 5.08 ERA.

The Phils will look to get the offense going against Boston right-hander Rick Porcello. Acquired in a big offseason trade from Detroit, the 26-year-old Porcello went 15-13 last season for the Tigers.

He won his only other career start against the Phillies back in 2013, allowing 3 runs in 6 innings of work in a 12-4 Tigers win that season.
