Fire Destroys Camden County Home, Family's Spirits

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (CBS) - Officials say crews battled a fire at a home Saturday afternoon in Pennsauken, New Jersey that eventually caused the house to collapse.

The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. at the two-story home located at Stow Road and Union Avenue.

Crews reportedly spent a lot of time fighting the fire, mainly because of heavy winds, but couldn't save the home in the end.

Officials say none of the residents were inside at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, although the family's dog was killed.

This is just the latest hardship facing the family who lived in the home. Two years ago the husband of the house died of cancer. A month after that, the wife's father died the same way. Last September, their son, Kevin, was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

"It's just been one thing after another for the last three years," says family member Carol Wood – mother to Kevin's fiancee. "We just keep beating everything that comes up and we're going to beat this too."

There's still no word yet what caused the blaze.

The family is planning on doing some online fundraising.
