Vincent Regan On 'A.D. The Bible Continues': It's Like 'House Of Cards' Meets 'Game Of Thrones'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Vincent Regan talked with Talk Radio 1210 WPHT morning host Chris Stigall about his new show that he is starring in, "A.D. The Bible Continues and his role as Pontius Pilate," as the "unfortunate governor of Judea" who ended up having Jesus Christ killed even though he did not want to.

"I suppose that if you were to compare it to something, it would be kind of 'House of Cards' meets 'Game of Thrones'… [Pilate] took Jesus Christ aside and said to him, 'Listen, you have to speak up and save yourself, because unless you do, I will have no other option but to sign your death warrant.'"

Regan is a politician, as opposed to one of the more "spiritual" characters, so his expectations for authenticity were not the same as many of his fellow cast members.

"[Executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett] were very keen that everything is completely accurate when it comes to the biblical truth. Now, when it comes to the other sections of the story like, the Romans, Herod, and Herodias, we could take some dramatic license, but Mark and Roma have been very respectful for the authenticity of the religious things in the show."

While it is not the first series or movie focused around Jesus Christ, Regan feels that it differentiates itself from many of those other works, such as Bill O'Reilly's book and now film, "Killing Jesus," by the way that they told the story.

"The story of Jesus Christ and His passion, death and resurrection, it's just the most wonderfully fascinating story, so it seems to me that people will never tire of seeing the story of Jesus and the Apostles told in different ways. I'm sure that 'Killing Jesus' approaches it in a different way to 'A.D.' The interesting thing about 'A.D.' is its starting point is the death of Christ. So, it's basically a dramatization of the acts of the Apostles, which I think is something rather new."
