KYW Flashback: Out With The Old, In With The New For The Phils

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - April is the month that baseball and football had a parting of the ways - at least a parting of shared stadium space.

That was 15 years ago this week as the Phillies moved out of Veterans Stadium and set up shop at the brand new, built for baseball playing field. It would be the third ball park that KYW reporters would broadcast season openers from in less than 50 years.

But what a park!

From the grass on the field to the latest trend in combining locally popular food and drink in a casual walkabout section with boardwalk appeal, Citizens Bank Park was new and vibrant. And with the Phillies on a winning path, the new ball park began racking up back to back sellouts.

But there are still lingering questions about what Philadelphia would be like if plans had gone ahead for ball park near Broad and Spring Garden with a light rail link to the western suburbs.
