Penn Relays Rolling Out First Official Social Messaging App

By KYW social media editor Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Penn Relays are partnering with a Penn startup for a new app that will be used to communicate official messages during the event.

The Penn Relays will be introducing WeHub -- the new messaging app for the 121-year-old track and field competition at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.

"We feel that WeHub is a great opportunity for the people that attend our event to stay in touch with each other, plan out their days and organize their groups so that they have the best experience when they come to Franklin Field," says Chas Dorman -- the Associate Director in Athletic Communications.

WeHub was created by 2014 Wharton grad Hagan Lee.

"Penn Relays will have an official Penn Relay group that anybody can join and follow in real-time and ask questions or have a discussion and Penn relay will be disseminating information within the Penn relay group," he tells KYW Newsradio.

Around 120,000 people attend the Penn Relays.

"It's nice to have a big beautiful tent on a specific physical location, but its better to have a digital presence within a 100 mile radius on everybody's phone if their using WeHub," adds Lee.

WeHub is a free app for Apple and Android devices.

The Penn Relays take place April 23rd-25th.
