Female Dead, Several Injured After Elderly Driver Crashes Through Nail Salon In NE Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Officials say a woman has died and several others were injured after an elderly driver crashed through a nail salon in Northeast Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

Chopper 3 was over the scene of the accident around 12:30 p.m. at Cindy's Nails on the 9800 block of Bustleton Avenue.

Authorities say a customer died at the scene and at least two others were hurt when an 82-year-old driver accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake when attempting to park.

Sgt. Joe Russo says, "There are signs of acceleration inside of the store which would be consistent with continually hitting the brake harder attempting to stop the vehicle."

Business owner Alex Schrabyman says, "Total disaster...chaotic. A couple of people were on the floor."

Authorities say the woman killed was reportedly waiting for her daughter to pick her up.

Police confirm the victim who was killed at the scene was wedged under the vehicle.

Business owner Marina Lipkovskaya says, "It's horrible. We're a very friendly place for everyone here. I believe this was just an accident."

There is no word on the severity of the victims' injuries, but the husband of one victim says she is stable.

There were two people in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They were both uninjured.
