Del. Man Arrested For 2 Violent Crimes, Including Alleged Assault On Elderly Woman

SEAFORD, Del. (CBS) – Police say a Delaware man has been arrested for two violent crimes, including an assault on an elderly woman.

On Sunday, March 29th around 6:50 p.m., police responded to an assault call on the 9000 block of Tharp Road.

When they arrived, they found an 81-year-old woman with severe injuries to her forehead and face.

The woman was transported to the hospital by EMS, where police learned a suspect had approached her near the side of her home to help her look for her cat.

As the two were walking along the side of the woman's house, the suspect reportedly began attacking the woman and punching her in the face.

Once she fell to the ground, that suspect fled the scene on foot without taking anything from the woman.

After a description of the alleged suspect was broadcast across the radio to police, they were able to arrest 35-year-old Jerome Q. Roach, of Seaford, for the crime.

Once Roach was taken to the police station, officers discovered he was the same suspect involved in an earlier incident that occurred in the park lot of a Seaford Walmart that is directly behind the elderly victim's house.

Roach is charged with Assault 1st Intentionally Causes Serious Physical Injury to a Person 62 Years or Older. He is currently lodged in Sussex Correctional Institution on $35,000 cash only bond.

The elderly female is now in stable condition at Christiana Medical Center.
