WEATHER: Thermometer Change Is A Sign Of Things To Come For The Weekend

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a day near 70 degrees, temperatures will fall back to reality - and then some.

A line of rain - some of it heavy - is draped from New England to Georgia this morning. The culprit? An area of low pressure that developed along yesterday's cold front. With cold air moving in behind it, precipitation on the back edge is even changing to snow in some spots of higher elevations.

By later this morning, the rain will begin to dissipate. This afternoon will be mainly cloudy, damp, and much cooler than yesterday. Highs will barely reach 50. The thermometer change is a sign of things to come for the weekend.

Sunshine will be limited Saturday with mainly cloudy skies, and even a flurry or sprinkle possible thanks to some leftover moisture. Highs will only reach the low 40s; all indications point to this being the last time I will have to say this. High pressure then moves in and fully clears things out. Sunday will be better, with lots of sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures. Next week looks to be primarily in the 50s and 60s. Woo-hoo!
