Dick Vermeil: 'I'd Be Surprised If Rams Move To Los Angeles'

By Chris Stigall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former NFL Head Coach Dick Vermeil told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT morning host Chris Stigall that he would be surprised if the St. Louis Rams (the team that he won his only Super Bowl with) would move to Los Angeles.

"I'd like to see them stay but I have no more insight to what's going on in the Rams organization than you do. I watched a whole second half of a game late in the year with Stan Kroenke, the owner of the Rams, great guy...I'd be surprised if he would move the team. I would say it's 50/50 or less."

Vermeil coached in the NFL for 15 years with stops in Philadelphia, Kansas City and aforementioned St. Louis and now helps manage Vermeil Wines out of the Napa Valley in California.

He told Chris that he is a big fan of the man currently walking the sidelines for the Eagles, Chip Kelly even with all of the controversial moves that he has made this offseason.

"I enjoy his style, his approach, his willingness to take chances, and he has a vision. He knows what he wants to do and he has the confidence to go ahead and do it."

When asked if he would ever coach again, Vermeil said that he thinks that he could. That is, if he had the energy.

"I think that I would be a better leader within the organization. I think I would do a lot of things a little better. There's no substitute for experience. The only thing you don't have at my age is the stamina to do it on a year round basis like it has to be done."

Since retirement, his time has mostly been taken up with family, the winery and doing work for the Boys & Girls Clubs, which has called him "a Champion for youth."

The former coach came on with Stigall to promote the upcoming Winemaker's Private Reserve Dinner which will be using his wine and is the keynote speaker at an event which will be sending proceeds to the Boys & Club of Philadelphia.
