Gun Rights Group Sues Philadelphia Suburb

BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (AP) — A gun rights group is suing a Philadelphia suburb over an ordinance it says conflicts with state law.

Firearm Owners Against Crime filed the lawsuit against Lower Merion on Friday, saying a law requiring a special permit to carry guns in township parks was vague and could mislead gun owners into thinking guns are banned.

The township says there are exemptions, including for people with a state-issued gun license.

The nonprofit gun rights group organized a rally against the ordinance March 15 at Bala Cynwyd park and threatened to sue if the measure was not rescinded.

Several communities have repealed gun ordinances following passage of a law strengthening state pre-emption of municipal gun ordinances.

The National Rifle Association sued Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Lancaster in January over their local gun ordinances.
